A partial day of rest...
There were four of us who were up bright and early to go to the lab. Clive needed to check on SPS, MAESTRO and the tracker and Richard, Dejian and I were hoping for Sun. Many thanks to Pierre for sacrificing his precious sleep in order to ferry us up to PEARL (via the "Ellesmere taxi service").
Over breakfast, Michael reported that he had a reasonable night of DIAL measurements. There were patches of ice crystals throughout the evening but there was no snow on the telescope when he shut down the system.
The Sun came out today with only minimal cloud and haze. Richard and Dejian were able to complete the measurement tests with all of the DA8 filters. After solar noon, they continued making measurements using the typical filter order and could measure everything except the MCT band. Retrieval comparisons are continuing for the DA8 spectra with whole beam and shared beam.
Tom and Tobias stayed down at the station and worked on the SPS and MAESTRO processing. They are making good progress. Annemarie and Oleg went skating on the reservoir. They found it wasn't like skating on the Rideau Canal. At -40C, the ice makes an interesting squeaking noise when you skate.
This evening's ozonesonde reached the highest altitude yet. The Raven balloon burst at 5.4 mbar (33.4 km). Annemarie won with a guess of 2 times pi (6.3 mbar). For the second time this year, a guess using an irrational number won.
Best regards,
Kaley.
