Shinny night in Eureka

I think I just became a Canadian… (ice) hockey might possibly be the most fun game on the planet! For those that don’t me, I’m a New Zealander. I didn’t grow up with snow and ice. Today I donned a pair of (ice) skates and picked up a (hockey) stick and had a fantastic time playing “shinny” (that’s a social game of ice hockey, for my friends and family back in NZ who don’t speak Canadian). Annemarie keeps telling me I don’t need the qualifiers “ice” hockey or “ice” skates… so maybe I’m not completely Canadian yet… Anyway, we did have a fantastic time out on the reservoir.

After the game, Tom gave a very-well attended (in fact everyone in Eureka!) talk on ozone science and his research. It was nice for many of the station folks to see why we are here. Heckling from the campaign team was minimal.

On the measurement front, today was a mixed bag. This morning was clear and sunny, and this afternoon, variable. We were treated to some incredible cloud displays that made measurements a little challenging. The FTS’s and the PEARL UT-GBS made solar measurements all morning (after very a brief downtime on the Bruker for some detector testing), and through as much of the afternoon as possible. The Clive tracker continues to work well. It was also a day of training for me, as I will be taking over running all of the campaign instruments on Sunday, and packing them all to come home in three weeks time.

It’s hard to believe the campaign is nearly over. Tomorrow will be the last day for the team up at PEARL. We all have our fingers crossed for sunny weather.
