It
was another cloudy, white day today. The trip to the lab was,
well, white. The road, the sky and the snowy hillside all looked very
much the same. The only thing of contrast we spotted on the way
up was a white Peary Caribou!
In the FTS lab, the instruments stayed off, and Felicia and I
concentrated on data analysis instead. Mareile continued work on the
SPS/MAESTRO codes, and Tom showed us the MAESTRO ozone and NO2 data
from the campaign so far. Cristen continued work on her BrO retrievals,
finding a few spurious effects in the data and doing some good
investigative work.
We called it a day early, taking advantage of the cloudy weather to get
out and see the sights. Most of us headed out for a walk on the frozen
fiord. Distances are deceiving, especially in the flat light, and we
only made it half way across before we had to turn back for dinner.
After the evening balloon launch (which reached 8.4 hpa, 31830m), the
weekly Eureka excitement began with "BINGO". As Bonnie has flown south,
I filled in as chief number caller. I gather my kiwi accent added an
extra challenge to the game - but it didn't seem to stop Oleg, who won
the big prize!
We have our fingers crossed for better weather tomorrow,
