Wolves under clear skies

Today was another beautiful, clear day at Eureka. Temperatures hovered around -42, allowing for the formation of diamond dust. The clear skies helped us see Sundogs during the early sunrise - a truly amazing sight, especially for those of us that had never seen them before! Check the photo section for pictures.

After breakfast, Emily, Keith, and Jane headed to check on SAFIRE. On the way up, they ran into the same wolf pack that we saw last night, this time counting at least 20 of them. Once again, they were unafraid of the trucks, coming close up (hoping for food probably!), providing another fantastic photo op. They seem to be slowly moving away from the area, so we'll see if they continue to hang around the airstrip.

At PEARL, Felicia took 50 MIR measurements with PARIS, Rodica took 61 MIR measurements and 25 NIR with HCl reference gas cell after installing and aligning the HCl reference cell. Cristen worked on getting the PEARL GBS operational while taking measurements with the UT GBS and SAOZ. At 0PAL, Emily finished testing the new PMT for the CANDAC RMR LIDAR and continued work on the new depolarization channel while Zen did desiccant checks for the E-AERI and cleaned excess, leftover thermal compound on the instrument.
