First Day at Work

Today was our first day at PEARL. We headed up to the Ridge Lab to install the campaign instruments prepare the winterized instruments. The winds were quite strong yesterday so we expected poor road conditions. To make it to the lab, we had to shovel through snow drifts. Thanks to the hardworking Eureka heavy equipment operators, we had a smooth ride back to the weather station in the evening.

It was a productive first day for the team. Cristen and Xiaoyi were busy setting up the SAOZ instrument, while Volodya worked on the SPS. In the FTS lab, Joseph, Paul, and Rodica isolated the mezzanine with a poly layer for protection of instruments against dust. We also did the maintenance on the Bruker 125HR and even performed an HCl cell measurement. Felicia and Lin unpacked PARIS and sorted out the bits and pieces for the beam sharing setup. We saw the sun through a red cloud, just a hair above the horizon. We hope it will not hide too much from us and that it will contribute to our data set!

We are all excited about being back in Eureka (for Lin and Xiaoyi being here for the very first time), and look forward to taking measurements over the next few weeks!
