The cloud cover at the PEARL Ridge Lab provided sunlight for measurements starting at noon, and ending in the late afternoon. During this time, Joseph and Dan took 19 mid-infrared measurements with the Bruker. Debora took 16 spectra with PARIS, and backed up all her data on hard drives and DVDs. The temperature at PEARL's Ridge Lab was -35 °C with a wind chill of 44 °C.
This morning, Xiaoyi shut down the UT-GBS to upgrade its optics, and to investigate an issue with the mechanical slit. He moved the UT-GBS back into the UV-Vis lab, changed its mechanical slit with the new, fixed 0.1 mm slit. Xiaoyi also removed the F# matcher component and changed to the AFO-XY fiber mount and the new F#/4 input lens. Xiaoyi happily reports that the PEARL-GBS has been running smoothly since yesterday. The only remaining task left for it to be fully operational is finding a solution for the UDP communication problem between it and the suntracker PC. Xiaoyi and Dan finished the calibration for sun tracker this afternoon.
Volodya found the SPS computer unresponsive again this morning. He will seek out a solution to enable the SPS to collect data during the morning twilight and minimize the effort required by the operators during the extensive part of the campaign. So far, moving communication for all instruments and the tracker to one computer has been stable. Pierre found a USB hub for Volodya to use, so he has connected four RS232 to USB adapters. Fortunately, all worked. Volodya is now anxiously waiting for tomorrow morning to see if everything works well through the night. If the computer stops overnight the problem is likely due to the software. Brewers continue their normal operation and will collect moon data for the next few nights.
Emily ran tests in the 0PAL CRL lab to re-characterise the water vapour channel. She was able to take 5 hours of lidar measurements today. The temperature at Eureka stayed around 42 °C throughout the day.
Today's ACE ozonesonde flight occurred at 18:15 and reached an altitude of 32,826 m and 5.5 millibars.
