Three weeks can go by very quickly when you are busy! Today was the last day of the intensive campaign. We had great weather to finish off a campaign full of excitement, shoveling trucks out of snow drifts, instrument fixing, and lots of measurements. Eureka's temperature was -42 °C this afternoon, -45 °C with the wind chill. At PEARL the temperature was -37 °C, and -55 °C with the wind chill.
In the Ridge Lab IR lab today, Joseph and Dan took 29 mid-infrared and 50 near-infrared measurements with the Bruker ñ a single-day record for this campaign! Debora took 38 measurements with PARIS and finished writing an operating manual to guide Emily and Paul through its operation during the extended campaign.
Xiaoyi's hard work over the last three weeks has paid off. All instruments in the UV-Vis lab are operating well and are ready for the extended phase of the campaign. UT-GBS, PEARL-GBS and SAOZ are taking measurements. Xiaoyi has also ensured the ibootbar is controllable with its new external IP. Xiaoyi talked to Emily about procedures for troubleshooting if the PEARL-GBS CCD issues resurface. He also ensured she is ready to pack it up after the campaign. After the trouble it caused, Xiaoyi decided to bring the new suntracker computer back to Toronto.
Volodya helped Pierre pack up SATI for shipping back to Toronto and performed last minute checks on the SPS and MAESTRO.
Everything at the Ridge Lab was thoroughly checked one last time before the team departed for their final drive back to the Eureka Weather Station. The lab is ready for Emily and Paul to take over tomorrow for the extended phase of the campaign.
Today at 0PAL, Emily and Chris took 24 hours of measurements with the CRL lidar. Emiliy also improved her analysis code. Emily also got last-minute instructions from Debora, Joseph and Dan, and helped Xiaoyi access his tracker computer from the Weather Station.
Today's ACE ozonesonde flight occurred at 18:15 and reached an altitude of 32,179 m and 6.3 millibars.
It has been yet another successful campaign, and as always, saying goodbye to Eureka is not easy. It has felt like home for the last three weeks. We would like to thank everyone who has made this campaign such a fantastic and successful experience.
Thanks to Rai, Dean, Mandy, James, Andre, Bill, and Mark. You each did everything possible to support us and make our field work as smooth as possible.
We would also like to thank the Canadian Space Agency, Environment Canada and CANDAC for continuing to financially and logistically support the Canadian Arctic ACE Validation Campaign. The opportunities that come with being in Eureka for polar sunrise are unmatched. The phenomenal data we collect in addition to the irreplaceable learning experience for us all is only possible because of the support you have provided.
Finally, thank you all for reading the daily updates and viewing our daily photos!
