We rely on our satellite dishes for internet and communication. Notice how they are pointed towards the horizon? That's the geometry needed to connect with satellites at 80 degrees North. Any further North, and there simply isn't any way to connect with a communications satellite. Yet. There are proposals and plans in the works for Canada to launch polar communications satellites.
