Farewell Zen and Volodya

We've now reached the half-way point in the intensive campaign phase. With clear skies and a temperature of -42°C at the Eureka Weather Station, Volodya and Zen left for Yellowknife this morning. From there, they'll fly to Toronto tomorrow. Emily went to the Eureka airport with them and took a video of their plane leaving. Once the plane departed and the truck returned, the team headed up to the Ridge Lab (aside from Emily, who walked over to 0PAL), which enjoyed the mildest temperature of the campaign so far, -20°C.

In the IR Lab, Joseph and Dan took 42 MIR measurements and 50 NIR measurements with the Bruker. Their plan for the rest of the campaign, weather-depending, is to take a couple hours of MIR measurements, swap the beamsplitter, take a couple hours of NIR measurements, again swap the beamsplitter, and finish the day with MIR measurements. Also in the IR Lab, Debora took 43 measurements with PARIS.

Over in the UV-Vis Lab, SAOZ, UT-GBS, and PEARL-GBS operated nominally. Xiaoyi analyzed recent UT-GBS spectra, which look good. He hasn't noticed any etalon effects from the latest optical arrangement.

Down at 0PAL, Emily and Chris took 23 hours of regular lidar measurements and 1 hour of routine white light calibration measurements. Emily brainstormed ways to improve their calibrations. She also reviewed recently-taken footage for the outreach video project. Today's ACE ozonesonde flight occurred at 18:15 (local time) and reached an altitude of 30,859 m (7.8 hPa).

On their way back from the Ridge Lab, Dan, Debora, Joseph, Paul, and Debora took a side trip to the Eureka airport, where they spotted an Arctic hare. We got out of the truck and were able to get quite close to it. This brought a delightful end to the day.
