Routine PEARL operations

The temperatures at Eureka Weather Station and the PEARL Ridge Lab have remained relatively constant for the last few days, -44°C and -20°C respectively. While there were a few clouds and haze on the horizon, the weather was generally measurement-friendly.

In the Ridge Lab's IR lab, Dan and Joseph took 57 MIR measurements and 50 NIR measurements with the Bruker. They were pleased to pass their goal of taking over 100 measurements in a day! Debora took 54 measurements with PARIS: a personal record!

Xiaoyi was very busy in the UV-Vis Lab today. He finished setting up the new temperature monitor, and, with Yan's help, it is now a part of the CANDAC temperature monitoring network. With help from Paul and Joseph, Xiaoyi moved the cooling insulation box up to the mezzanine in the UV-Vis Lab. Paul and Dan helped Xiaoyi install the air conditioner in the insulation box. After double-checking with Pierre, Xiaoyi found a safe power outlet for the new air conditioners, and tested them at mid-day. In the afternoon, Xiaoyi shutdown PEARL-GBS, moved it to the insulation box, and re-set the ibootbar power system. By the end of the day, he had restarted PEARL-GBS, and returned it to performing combination measurements.

Down at 0PAL, Chris ran the lidar from midnight until 1 PM. Emily spent the following three hours climbing onto the laser table to try calibration tests with various polarization optics. Chris continued taking lidar measurements at 4 PM, and intends to continue throughout the night.

Today's ACE ozonesonde flight occurred at 18:15 (local time) and reached an altitude of 29,788 m (9.3 hPa).

After dinner, Emily, Dan, and Paul walked out past a ridge near the Eureka airport. They encountered a curious Arctic fox, who ran nearby and watched them for a while. When they started walking back to Eureka, they were delighted that the fox decided to follow them part of the way.
