Another cloudy day

Today the team began week three of the campaign. The temperature at the Eureka Weather Station was -40°C; at the Ridge Lab the temperature was -22°C. Unfortunately, the Sun was mostly obscured by clouds, impeding solar measurements.

In the PEARL Ridge Lab's IR lab, Joseph and Dan made good use of the cloudy morning by installing a new version of the Bruker's OPUS software. While measurement conditions were poor, they nonetheless took a few noisy measurements to confirm that the software behaved as it should. All appears well with the new software. In the afternoon, they updated the Bruker computer's anti-virus software as well. Debora took 12 measurements with PARIS. She also filmed instructional videos to help train people how to run PARIS.

Paul and Dan took down astronomy equipment from the Ridge Lab roof, which had been set up last October to perform observations throughout the Polar Night.

Xiaoyi cleaned up the UV-Vis Lab and its mezzanine. SAOZ, PEARL-GBS, and UT-GBS continue to operate nominally. Xiaoyi made a small shelter for the UT-GBS to help deal with the stray light. He also installed two remote power bars for the PEARL-GBS' UPS and the cooling system. This will allow him to control them remotely. Xiaoyi also finished setting up the new suntracker laptop (Trax2). It can auto-reboot when the AC is on. Xiaoyi continues to work on overcoming the limitation that the Ubuntu OS can only be selected manually.

Down at 0PAL, the CRL performed another 24 hours of measurements. There were clouds overhead, so Emily hopes they will have something interesting to see in the data tomorrow!

This evening after dinner, Emily gave Xiaoyi a tour of the CRL lab and they checked laser performance.

Emily and Dan also spent time in the evening editing videos for outreach.

Today's ACE ozonesonde flight occurred at 18:15 (local time) and reached an altitude of 30,780 m (7.8 hPa).

The team hopes for better weather tomorrow!

Dan
