Mix of Sun and clouds

The temperature at the Eureka Weather Station was -34°C today. The Ridge Lab experienced temperatures near -21°C (-32°C with the windchill) and a mix of clouds throughout the day. All instruments continue to operate well.

In the PEARL Ridge Lab's IR lab, variable cloud conditions reduced sunlight available for solar measurements. Dan and Joseph took 51 MIR measurements with the Bruker. Debora took 29 measurements with PARIS. She also continued working on an instructional video for future PARIS operators. Dan, Debora, and Joseph are hoping for clear skies tomorrow.

In the UV-Vis Lab, SAOZ, UT-GBS, and PEARL-GBS are working smoothly. Xiaoyi finished setting up the new suntracker laptop (Trax2), which can now reboot into the Ubuntu operating system automatically when power is available. Xiaoyi now considers Trax2 reliable for year-round measurements without an operator on-site. He also set up a separate power outlet for the 500 BTU air conditioner, giving full remote control over both air conditioners. He is testing whether using only the larger (2000 BTU) air conditioner unit suffices for PEARL-GBS. Since the CCD controller and the computers are located outside, the CCD is the only heat source inside the insulation box.

Down at 0PAL, the CRL observed lots of clouds yesterday and today. Chris ran the lidar for nearly 24 hours. Communications through the internet were a little shaky today, but held up for the most part.

Today's ACE ozonesonde flight occurred at 18:15 (local time) and reached an altitude of 30,784 m (7.8 hPa).
