The morning started with a small bit of excitement, as an Arctic Hare was spotted running alongside the road to PEARL a short distance past Upper Paradise. Dan and Paul were keen to get photos, but it ran away too fast. As the team approached the Ridge Lab, they were impressed by a spectacular view of the nearly-full moon. Paul and Dan took a few photos. Highlights are in today's photo album!
We had sunlight from 10 AM until 3:30 PM today, and clear skies. Temperatures in Eureka have stayed consistently near -45°C. Temperatures at the PEARL Ridge Lab have kept near -30°C.
In the PEARL Ridge Lab's IR lab, Dan took 56 MIR measurements with the Bruker. He began the day taking measurements with the original Bruker computer, while continuing to prepare the new computer. As lunchtime approached, and the original computer failed (a second time that morning). Fortunately, Dan was ready to switch over to the new computer, which is now running measurements!
Also in the IR lab, Sebastien took 23 measurements with PARIS. He also began learning about the TCCON pressure sensor. He will set that up soon before NIR Bruker measurements begin.
Everything has been working well for Xiaoyi today. SAOZ, UT-GBS and PEARL-GBS are all running! The PEARL-GBS dome is nearly clear of frost now, thanks to the two heaters keeping it warm. The software upgrades Xiaoyi has been working on are now complete, and MAX-DOAS + Zenith Sky mode PEARL-GBS measurements are underway.
Paul is pleased to again report SPS has been operating nominally.
Today's ACE ozonesonde flight occurred at 6:15 this evening (local time) and reached an altitude of 29,676 m (8.6 hPa).
It's been a busy and successful campaign day here in Eureka!
