Heavy clouds blanketed the Eureka sky today. Temperatures in Eureka have begun to warm, and are at -33°C. It's -25°C at the PEARL Ridge Lab.
Dan and Sebastien were unable to take solar FTIR measurements with the Bruker and PARIS because of the thick clouds.
Dan drained the Bruker's source chiller as much as possible. Paul then helped him use an air compressor to blow the remaining water out of the twists and turns of the heat sink lines using an adaptor they borrowed from Dave, the Eureka Weather Station mechanic. To limit wear and tear on the patched-up chiller, it will be kept in storage until it is needed for another cell test. Dan backed up the Bruker's campaign measurements to a portable hard drive to be carried back to Toronto. This afternoon, he also continued working on updating the Bruker's SOP document.
The UT-GBS, PEARL-GBS, and SAOZ continue to take measurements nominally. Xiaoyi copied all GBS and SAOZ data in case the team is unable to visit the Ridge Lab tomorrow. He also updated all three instrument manuals, printed them, and left them by their respective instruments. To ensure the new diffuser is working well, Xiaoyi compared this campaign's UT-GBS spectra with previous campaign's spectra. They look good!
After leaving the lab mid-morning due to weather, the team dropped by the runway to look for wildlife. They saw a lone wolf at a distance, walking across the nearby hills.
The extended phase team, Pierre and Sophie, are in Yellowknife. They were scheduled to arrive in Eureka this evening; however, their plane was delayed due to blizzard conditions in Cambridge Bay and Resolute. Hopefully they will be able to fly to here tomorrow.
