Saturday Special - Victor Yankee Zero Echo Romeo Charlie

We usually don't report on Saturdays but decided to make a tiny exception because Pierre and Alexey are participating in the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) DX contest where they try to contact as many stations as they can that are outside of North America. Both of them are licensed amateur radio operators and founded the Eureka Amateur Radio Club.

As stated at http://www.arrl.org/arrl-dx the objective is to encourange North American station to expand knowledge of distance propagation on the HF and MF bands, improve operating skills, and improve station capability by creating a competition in which distance stations may only contact North American stations.

2020 Team on Radio Pierre invited us into the radio room and enchouraged us to join his conversations with oversea stations.

The third founding member of the Eureka Amateur Radio Club is John Gilbert who was a radio operator at Eureka in the late 1950s. At that time amateur radio was the only method for the station staff to contact home other than writing letters. So, amateur radio has played a significant role in High Arctic weather station life for a long time.

If you would like to know more about the Eureka Amateur Radio Club, we encourage you to check out this Nunatsiaq News article.

Cheers,
